After surface treatment with plasma surface treatment machine, paper boxes can not only enhance their applicability to adhesives, but also achieve high-quality bonding without relying on special adhesives. With the continuous improvement of requirements for paper box packaging materials, the market not only demands the appearance of packaging paper boxes, but also puts forward more requirements for functionality and quality.


The materials used for processing paper boxes, such as top and bottom sheets, are no longer simple paper, but more commonly use new materials such as laminated paper, glossy paper, coated paper, or aluminum plated paper, or directly use plastic sheets such as PP and PET. These new materials have brought a lot of help in terms of performance and quality to packaging paper boxes, but at the same time, they have also brought new challenges to the box pasting process.


For regular paper, water-based cold glue can bond them well, but for new materials such as laminated paper and glossy paper, the bonding process is not as simple as before because it is no longer between paper and paper, but between paper and plastic, or paper and other materials.


The advantages of low-temperature plasma technology can precisely make up for the above shortcomings. As a commonly used supporting equipment of the paste box machine, the plasma surface treatment machine can solve the problem of color box glue opening. Its glow discharge and arc discharge can significantly change the surface morphology of the material, transforming the printing surface from non-polar and difficult to stick to polar, easy to stick and hydrophilic, which is conducive to bonding, coating and printing.

The plasma surface treatment machine of the box pasting machine consists of a plasma generator, transformer, and plasma spray gun. Depending on the different types of boxes, such as straight boxes, lock bottom boxes, or different materials, such as paper boxes that only require single-sided processing or adhesive boxes that require double-sided processing, different numbers of spray guns may be configured in the system to complete the pre-processing work.


The plasma spray gun is directly mounted on the glue box machine, usually placed in front of the spray gun or glue plate of the glue machine. A spray gun can achieve a processing width of 5-8 millimeters. The processing can meet the needs of high-speed box pasting, and effective pre-treatment can be obtained even if the production line speed reaches 600m/min. The system can easily integrate mechanical and electrical linkage with the laminating machine, and it only takes a few minutes to install the spray gun onto the laminating machine.


The role of plasma surface treatment mainly comes from two aspects. Firstly, it cleans the surface and removes various pollutants. Secondly, it activates the surface by physically and chemically modifying the surface film, UV coating or plastic sheet to improve its adhesion, making it as easy to bond as ordinary paper. Plasma itself is electrically neutral, so it will not burn the surface when processing some aluminum plated surfaces. And the plasma is also low-temperature, it will not have any thermal effect on the surface. Under normal process settings, no traces of treatment will be found on the surface.



The treated surface can obtain a surface energy of 72mN/m, which means that water can fully spread on such a surface. After processing, using conventional cold glue can ensure reliable adhesion of laminated or glossy cardboard on high-speed box pasting machines. There is no longer a need for local peritoneum, local polishing, surface grinding and cutting processes, nor is there a need to replace different special adhesives for different cardboard.


For the glue box, the surface treated by plasma surface treatment can also enhance its applicability to glue, and high-quality bonding can be achieved without relying on special glue. At the same time, due to the improved surface spreading performance, it can also prevent the generation of bubbles and other substances. The most important thing is that after atmospheric plasma surface treatment, paper box manufacturers can obtain high-quality products with lower cost and higher efficiency.
